“Sanction” is an interesting one, depending on whether it’s used as a verb or a noun (usually in the plural)

Yes, not sure if I've seen it causing arguments in quite the same way. But it's definitely a good example of a word that mean two almost opposite things – give approval for, or impose penalties on.
